I had an aluminum starcraft for many years and could really offer no complaints. Am now considering the new fiberglass center console bay boat series. Palmetto Marine has the new 180 series with 90 yamaha. Anybody had one of these or have an opinion to share? Thanks in advance. Chris
Looked at the 18 in Cape May, NJ. Was underpowered with a 50HP and the price was still high @ $20K BMT. Trailer was single axle bunk gavl. Thought the fit & detail was marginal. The bilge in the one I looked at had fiberglas shavings, the access hole was rough cut. The stern light wires were not connected. Didn’t like the motor cables taking up space in the cockpit, no room. With splash door up, no room. While the boat was on the trailer, the scuppers look high (had the plastic ping/pong balls in the clear plastic housing) close to the cockpit drain height, almost reimmesense of my Hobie Power Skiff 15CC (ie wet cockpit). Look at the cover page of the catalog with the guy standing in the rear (granted with 115 4stk motor). Also the stern light was mounted on the inside gunnel with surface mount rod racks, no walking room between console & leaning post.
I quickly moved on & bought a Triumph 17CC BMT w/ 70 Yamaha for $13K.
Unless you got a blow-out price…
Look at the Carolina Skiff lines, Sportsman & Tidewater boats as price comparabe & quality.
