OT: Searching for Land to Lease

My family sold off our hunting property in Walterboro this year, so I’ve interested in trying to lease some property for next year. Can anyone provide some good links for the best places to search for land to lease. Thanks in advance.

Are you looking for still or dog leases?

What size are you looking for? I have a couple of tracts adjacent to me that I’m trying to get still hunters in and hopefully work with me on some reasonable QDMA practices.

I’m sure he’ll throw in a subscription to The Pee Pod, to sweeten the deal!

Is there any thread around here immune to your circle jerking? It is so tired.

Clem Sounds like you are starting from scratch. I like to know who I am hunting with, so I can be careful about where I join - for my safety!

I can tell you from experience to avoid craigslist etc. I would try SC outdoors, GON forums or check with folks in locally owned tackle + hunting supply stores. From there, you can find some like minded folks and see what you can put together with them.

Hey 23,

4-5 of us are looking for some good property to still hunt on, no dog hunting. I’ve grown up with 8 points outside the ears or better, and taking a doe for every buck so that’s what we would do. Would be interested in what county you hunt in, and what the tracts look like next to you.

I’m in Colleton County, its an hour from Summerville. About an hour and fifteen minutes from most of Charleston. There are two tracts I know about that could be available next season. First one is 209 acres, but 100 is farmland. Planted soybeans this year and its covered up in deer. That’s $15 per acre. The second is 489 acres, heavily wooded. Mix of planted pines/hardwoods, most of this area has very thick underbrush, great deer country. I’m not sure of the price on this tract, but I can certainly find out.

If it doesn’t work out, I would heed the advice above and stay away from Craigslist too.

PM me your number/email and I’ll call you today with details.

Clem 1984,

I know you said you are looking to lease, but I have a 256 acre farm that is for sale just west of Greeleyville. (about an hr. and fifteen min. from Walterboro) I have managed it with a similar plan of shooting only mature bucks and a couple of does each year for the 5 years I have owned it. It has 66 acres of row crops and the balance in pine/hardwood mix.

I have taken several really nice bucks off of it, with a couple that just missed meeting the SC record book min. One grossed 130" and netted 123 and 1/8". Another that netted 119 and change. This year I shot a 20" wide 10pt that I have not scored yet, but will gross in the 120’s. It is with great regret that I need to sell this, but with my daughter starting college next fall I know what I need to do. I would like to sell it to someone that has the same mindset. Let me know if you are interested. It is for sale at $1658/acre.

Steve

Me thinks capnbobo stinks of an alias if he thinks your “circle jerking” being so new with only 20 posts.

Thanks Fred! Even if he not an alias and is a real person, he doesn’t have enough time around here tell me how to talk to other members! Or pick at them! My post wasn’t pointed at him.

Where’s capthomo, figured he would chime in again, after he learned a little? We, know one another, you with 20 post’s don’t!!!

(**() - good 21st post there.

OK! You’re out.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the advice, and to 23Sailfish. I ended up not finding enough people to go in on a lease with, but did find a pretty cool club to join off of Hwy 174 towards Edisto. One of the prettiest pieces of property that I’ve been on. Lots of old oak tree’s all over the place with mixed in pines. Guess we will see what kind of deer this plantation will produce.

Good luck Clem, glad you found something that worked out for you.

If I get murdered in the city, don’t go revenging in my name…

Capnbobo,
Thanks for links. I have been looking for a lease or club myself for my boys near the Beaufort/low country area without much luck. We joined a club in Hardeeville last year that didn’t work out due to dog hunting but decided to try something different this year. Would you happen to have any other leads? I have 2 young boys that are obsessed with hunting and would like to find a good family oriented still hunting club. I’ve worked at several local plantations as a hunting guide over the years so i am definitely capable and willing to help out as needed. Thanks for any help…8436947944
