Other side of Gulf Stream

I have been to the bump and am planning on making a trip way out and troll back in (when the weather is good), and hopefully to snag some yellowfin. Does anyone know any long liners or have any experience with this distance. I’m asking so I can plan on fuel consumption. Thank you

there is a whole thread about this on here- use the search

SC Fish…you should safely/honestly think twice about planning a trip when you haven’t been able to calculate the trip distance yourself. There are MANY different tools online to figure this out…Not to mention the GPS that I hope you have on your boat. Then, you can calculate your fuel consumption based on your previously recorded fuel consumption from trips you have already done. This is very simple “Captain 101”. My response is only here for your own safety, but honestly you don’t seem ready whatsoever to fish 180’ deep muchless 4-7,000 ft deep. It will behoove you to do your own homework.

The distance isn’t a constant, either.

We had intel from Sat shot and longliner that the otherside was only 90 miles out or so the day before we left. Well, next day, we were 100 miles out and in the middle of the stream. It shifted 30 or so miles in one day.

I think this pic was from the middle of the stream last time we tried it…

Good times, just not what we were hoping for.

so when is the “best time” to go to the other side? I know Scott and Billy have been playing around over there, i just havent had a chance to try it yet

For yellowfin, I’d say anytime in next three months. That said, it’s kind of a trip where you go whenever if the stars align just right. Doesn’t happen often for the boats I usually fish.

Paul, I’ve been by your store in Evans a couple times but you were not there.

Shoot me a text at 706-833-9545. Need to talk fishing. Live in Appling, but on LI in Bft often.

The good Ole days…I might be willing to give it another go if the gods allow

How did they kill yft fishing??

thanks for the responses, and as schoolsout said the stars will have to align. im aware of the risks involved. thanks for the info

ICCAT killed yellowfin fishing and continues to do nothing about it, also working on overharvesting big eye. EU and Japanese purse seine boats with up to 500 FADS each fishing in spawning and nursery grounds of coast of Africa. Can you say “recruitment overfishing” been going on for 15 years no end in site. Will get worse before it gets better.
