Ouch...

I recently read a thread on another message board on this sight, where Mr Rick posted this link on removing a hook from your finger via the “snatch method”. Thought it was a good one to share here with the club as we will probably all experience this on our boat at some point if we have not already. Better to be prepared when it happens.

I also agree with Rick’s comments that a strong piece of braided line or cord would probably work as well, and should be kept handy in your emergency kit, along with a pair of metal snips on board.

Guys, every boat should have a first aid kit…not that expensive…and will save the day…the hook removal system “snatch method” will work even with fishing line. But needs some ointment and bandaid to finish out the day. Then needs to be cleaned and taken care of.

Hook infection is serious if not properly taken care of.

Great video.

In an emergency, you can use your fishing line as your puller. You can loop it around, but a stronger method is a simple cow hitch. If your line is not the 20 pound test that a lot of us like to use, you can double it or quadruple it before making the cow hitch.

You wrap the end of the line around your pliers or other object that you can use as a grip.

Does this method work with circle hooks?

It works with all hooks. With circle hooks, which I use, it it very important to make sure the shank of the hook is pushed down toward the point of hook entry, when snatching the hook out.
