is this going slow people down fishing.
wonder if fish price will increase with price of gas increase
I bet the eviros love this! They have shut down half the fishery, fuel prices are through the roof, I guess we will spend alot of time hugging trees this spring…
Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
Are you talking about price of seafood (commercial fish)? We are already up to 70% on importing cheap seafood. Think about it… Imported seafood means that we are paying other countries to rape their resources and sell it to us for pennies on the dollar, which drives down the margins on our local guys, which forces them to catch more to survive… I think a nice tarriff on imported seafood with revenues going back into local reef building and fish stocking sounds like an interesting concept…
local commerical boys if price will go up for gas prices

TALIKNG ABOUT COMMERICAL FISHMAN IF THEY WILL GET INCREASE PER LB FOR FISH DUE TO PRICE OF GAS.
GAS UP FORTY PERCENT FROM LAST MARCH 2010
I can’t blame the commerical fishermen for raising the price of their catch. They need to make a living to. As for me I’m still fishing no matter the price of gas. To hell with traders and speculators who are driving the price of gas through the roof and making millions.
A wise man once said “Do as I say not as I do” Good advice when I tell you that.
Saw on the news last night that the price of a GALLON of gas in now war torn Lybia is a whopping $0.40! Someone is making a LOT of money on this deal.

Seems like I remember a couple years back when prices were sky high that there was a Marlin tournament in Venezuela where citizens paid $0.14/gallon and people coming from outside countries had to fill up at $1.40/gallon.

Deja vu…
Natural gas costs one third less than gasoline, natural gas gives about twenty percent more mileage than gasoline, the US supplies 23% of the worlds natural gas; however, the oil companies will not reap the absurd profits off natural gas that they do with gasoline. So it is not going to happen anytime soon.

Either way… gas in the boat, and an assortment of shellfish from my favorite supplier… “sells”, got to have them both.
Anyone know where I can get a gearcase for a Opti 225?

Commercial fishermen really don’t have much control over fish prices. They get what the market is paying. We sell fuel to them & the only way they can have an effect on prices is to not go fishing…but then come the imports. These guys have a lot going against them.
I feel their pain. The fuel prices hit Sea Tow on both ends of our P&L. Our non-member rates are already so high that we get turned down on 9 out of 10 calls. At least we can control our prices even though the consumer doesn’t have to pay them (if they can find a friend to come get them…however this has led to 2 vessels being recovered instead of 1 twice in the recent past).
If you take another perspective, this false recovery we are experiencing in the economy wouldn’t be possible without devaluing our currency and higher fuel prices.

rcferdon is dead on. How can they raise prices on grouper, when it get’s imported from South America for pennies on the dollar? Have you guys seen some of these grouper\snapper boats? Most of us wouldn’t be caught dead on one. They aren’t big luxurious shiny cadillacs on the sea. They are run down wooden boats that do 9 knts with a trail of paint flakes falling off behind them and a nice plywood interior to sleep on. Those guys aren’t living it large by any means. As fuel prices go up, eventually many of these guys will go belly up.
It all sucks. Gas prices are going to go up even more. Even though seafood comes from other countrys it will also go up when they put the “Fresh Local Seafood” sign on it. I am going with the fact that I can’t take my money with me when I die so I am going to use it on what I love to do and keep fishing.
