Out of stater visitor rules

I know this has been discussed before but I need pretty quick answer.

I thought that an out of state visitor could be on boat while shrimping but could not participate in harvest, as in throwing net.

They could drive boat and or observe as long as they had an out of state salt water license.

Anybody got the answer?

Thanks

you are correct…not sure about them having to have a fishing license, but it wouldn’t hurt anyway…

Ken,
The regs specifically state “License holders, while shrimping from a boat, may be assisted by a resident who is not required to have a shrimp baiting license”. No mention of non-residents. Not sure how it has been intrepreted by DNR on the water. There has been some discussion about it and it appears that a few threads back, someone called DNR and they said that the resident may be assisted by a non-resident. But the general concensus was that individual officers may interpret the regs differently than Ft. Johnson.

Why not just call SCDNR and ask them?

If you want to shrimp you can pick up a short term out of state license for about $10. Otherwise, you should be fine as long as you aren’t participating.

If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.

Don’t listen to that advise. Call DNR

Yep, they have to have the $500 license if they are particpating at all from what I understand

yes, $500 if they want to throw the net…

but like pancake said, if you are still in this much doubt, give DNR a call…

I called DNR at start of season. Out of state persons can do everything but touch the net. And do not require a salt water fishing license. According to Lady at DBR who looked it up for me.

The answer to your question is printed on the back of the paper your tags came on. It clearly states “Nonresidents may be present in boats, but cannot assist in casting nets”
