Outboard Opinions

Looking to repower a 14’6" Duracraft that has a large deck added and will be using the same troller I have on another boat(24 volt). With the deck and 2 batteries +/- another person, would the weight difference between a 20 hp vs 25hp 4 stroke be worth the extra 5 hp? Leaning towards the 20hp, but wanted other opinions.

Thanks

This is their official comparison on their website. Im pretty partial to Yamaha. I have a 25 on my 16 ft War Eagle, and with three people, a blind, and all our duck hunting gear it still runs fairly well. It wont outrun anyone, but it still does the job. hope this helps!

If you most always just have 2 people in boat a 20 will work fine but, if you carry a heavy load or 3 people (or two plus kids) often you will not be totally happy with it. It may struggle planning out.
A 25 would not. Been there done that!!

75-85% of time by myself for a quickie after work. Just worried about batteries and deck up front. Running a very unreliable 1970 Johnson 20hp that pushes it 22-23 mph. Wish there wasn't a big jump on weight b/w 20 and 25's

if the current 20hp does what you want it to, then a new 20 should work just fine
the old motor horsepower was rated at the engine, then new is rated at the prop
