How difficult is or could it be to track done title for an outboard? Anyone have any experience with this. Trying to make a quick decision on something here. Thanks in advance.

Do you know for sure it was previously titled? It would be pretty easy to determine who the previous owner was and hopefully if still alive or close by, get them to sign a bill of sale to transfer ownership. Beware of back owed taxes.
If it was never titled or came from a non-titling state, that should be pretty easy. When I moved here from PA I had a 9.9 Merc (non titling state) I told them I brought it with me. Pretty easy, needed pic of engine S/N and model information. A few bucks and I had a title.

Georgia is a non-title state on boats and motors also.

Florida does not title outboard motors either.

Thanks for the response guys. I will have the motor this time tomorrow and I’ve been told the original title sticker is on it (underneath a bogus one). So, if I have any trouble tracking down the original owner, I’ll get back in here and start asking boat load (pun intended) of more questions! Muchas Gracias!
FYI, I think that I read that only SC and MD are the only states that require title for outboards… Anyone else heard this?
