Outboard title

Ok I bought a 14ft Jon boat with a 6.6 outboard about 4 years ago. Boat was always titled to me and everything good there. I wrongfully thought the 6.6 was small enough it didn’t need a title. When I bought the boat the motor did not have a title (the guy bought it from his brother and never changed it over). Never though much about it, but this year I repainted the boat, got the new nunbers and all and would like to get the motor titled. How would I go about this now? I don’t know if I could track down the seller anymore. Could I send in the serial number to DNR and they see if it’s clean then they issue a new title?

Go to the DNR office at Fort Johnson with all the info you have on the motor. I think they have a procedure for this - not the first time it happened. They will probably have records on a previous owner. Seems like I had to do this a while back.

Before you go to the DNR, you can search based on the motor serial number to see what they have in their database:

Awesome info. Thanks so much.

you will need to pay dnr $10 and they will do a title search for you, and give you the info on the registered owner, and then it will be up to you to get with him to transfer the title. if you can not do that, there is a procedure for getting a title with out his help, but its a bit of a hassle
