Last year I had the opportunity/privilege of hosting my first deer hunt for the outdoor dream foundation. Since then I have hosted deer, duck, quail, and turkey hunts. The number of kids have ranged to 1-10 at a time
For those not familiar with the outdoor dream foundation, it is an organization founded to take seriously or terminally ill children hunting and fishing. Their program is 100% non profit. Their goal is to take ill children’s mind off their battles by taking them hunting and fishing.
To put this in perspective many of us grew up hunting and fishing. It’s in our blood and makes us to a degree who we are. Many of us like me have children now and like our parents get the pleasure of showing our kids the outdoors from an hunters and fishers eyes. It is truly a gift from to share this with your kids , nephews, nieces, cousins, family friends, etc!
My long winded point is your experiences shared with and involving these children are immeasurable to them and their parents. These kids have and or are facing death. All they want is to feel “normal” and “forget” their worries and sicknesses for a day or weekend.
Having a 7 year old and teaching her about the outdoors and being married to a breast cancer survivor I have gravitated to this cause. I am amazed and blessed along with y’all that our pastimes give hope to children and people facing such illnesses.
If you can hunt and fish in any capacity you are blessed. If you have the opportunity to share that experience…I need your help. I will put their info at the end of this post. We need people/landowners/boat owners to dedicate their time and facility to take these kids fishing and hunting. It can be as few as one child or as many as can be facilitated at a time. From experience don’t go too big at first. Mobility, wheelchair access, endurance, etc can all be factors I along with many others will help if you chose to donate.
