overnite anchor

greetings all. been lurking for awhile, nice site, great info. I’m relatively new to the area and looking for advice. Gonna be fishing the chas60 and am interested in anchoring for the nite rather than come all the way back in. good or bad idea? 40 ft searay

Lots of container ship and other traffic in that area. If you come off anchor or if someone else is being reckless, it could be disaster.

Don’t just rely on electronics.

Someone MUST be on watch at all times.

Spending the night offshore is very enjoyable to me. Just remember that any complications are harder to deal with in the dark. Experienced crew and preparation will increase your safety factor by 100 fold…

If foggy or raining, then anyone on watch absolutely must be experienced and skilled with your radar or else you are asking for big trouble. Boats bigger than yours have sank for hitting mere reef marker buoys offshore.

Good luck.

Good adivce Phin! Allways have someone keep watch any time anchored, Inshore or off shore in darkness

Point taken. I just figured if i had my lights on a container ship would just go around me.
