Probably will be looking for a motor soon and was wondering which motor would be better. I know a four stroke would be better but hate to spend that much money on my current boat. Found a good deal on an HPDI 200 but not sure if that’d be the best way to go. Heard so many good things about the ox66 motors and not too much on the HPDIs. Views?

OX66 very reliable but drinks a lot of fuel compared to the HPDI, but also easy to work on
HPDI very fuel efficient, but much more complicated engine and not as reliable long term

Yeah, that’s what I’ve read and heard. Seems like the hpdi’s will do good as long as you stay away from ethanol and keep the filters clean. I like the idea of the better fuel economy too. My 6 carb looper is thirsty.

I have a 2002 200HPDI and its been a great motor.Never had 1 thing to go wrong with it.Probably costs more to service but as far as reliability its great.
I have a 2000 200Ox66. Great motor and to be truthful, I get the boat up on plane and cruise as opposed to running wide open all the time and the fuel consumption doesn’t seem too bad.

Had a 225 OX66 put well over 700 hours on it had to replace powerhead one time. Traded 0X 66 in for a 250 HPDI put 350 hours on it, had to replace power head three times. Now have 250 four stroke close to 400 hours knock on wood, no issues. In regards to fuel and oil consumption, my HPDI burned more oil than OX 66, and they all three got/get about the exact same fuel efficiency on my boat. They all have provided the same top end speed. The only difference I see now is the four stroke takes a couple more seconds to get out the hole when the boat is really loaded down.
It is my understanding that the 150 and 200 HPDI is an entirely different motor than the 250 and 300. I hear they are far more reliable.
