Oyster shell recycling

Does anyone have any info on where to take oyster shells for recycling?

Thanks Joey

There is an oyster shell recycle area at the landing off of dorchester at the end of Ladson Road. I always take mine to Bushy Park and dump them there.

Where are you located? Sol Legare landing on James Island has a dump site, Bears Bluff National Fish Hatchery on Wadmalaw island takes them during open hours (7:30-4:00 M-F). Go the the SCDNR website and search “SCORE” for more locations.

Thanks guys. I live downtown but having a family roast out on JI. I’ll give them a call. Just trying to do my part.

recently updated maps to all the drop sites in SC available here: http://www.saltwaterfishing.sc.gov/oyster.html

I work for the SCORE program- moving shell from the drop sites is one of my primary responsibilities. During normal business hours, you can drop them off at DNR at Fort Johnson- there’s a large gray plastic bin in the big field where the research boats are kept.

If anyone has a large roast (10-15 bushels or more), call Ben Dyar at (843) 953-9397 and he’ll arrange to drop off and pick up DNR trash cans for you to put recycled shell in.

Please feel free to PM me with questions, Brock
