Oyster Shell Recycling

I’m sure most of you on here already know about the oyster shell recycling efforts of SCDNR, but it never hurts to remind folks. To find out the closest recycling drop off site please visit http://saltwaterfishing.sc.gov/oyster.html
There have been new drop off sites established since last year.

Every bushel counts and a bushel recycled is a bushel that we don’t have to buy. DNR spends a good deal of money each year buying shell from out of state shucking houses when we could be capturing the shell from local sources. The money we save on purchasing shells allows us to spend more money planting shell on state and public grounds. If you know of a local roast that will be producing more than 20 bushels, let DNR know so they can coordinate the pick up of those shells. Contact information for the oyster shell recycling program can be found at the link above.
