Anyone have a recommendation for one? Don’t want to spend a fortune on a custom one. Want to be able to steam 1/2 bushel at a time.
Is this one overkill? What should I be looking for?

If you can find an old gas hot water heater you can rob the heater & plumb it to a 20 lb. propane tank. I take an old wheel & mount the heater to & weld a couple pieces of rebar across it for the steam pot to sit on. Got a couple old stainless beer kegs for pots but you can’t find them anymore. Just place a rack of some kind in bottom of pot to keep em out of the boil.

Not sure about a 1/2 bushel, but I can do a pretty big batch in my turkey fryer pot.

$50 at Home Depot and I’m sure you could find them cheaper. You can always do the old school method of a piece of sheet metal over a camp fire and cover the oysters with a wet burlap sack, pour a little water and beer on the metal to make extra steam. That always works for me when we are camping on islands. But I then PeaPods idea will be the cheapest.

We actually use our oven. You can’t do a ton at a time but it works on smaller batches.
We were forced to improvise when someone borrowed ours and never returned it.

Southern Steamers. You can do a bushel at a time or a Lowcountry boil big enough to feed 12-15 in one go.

BIG POT with lid… best deal and easy to do other things with.
Have a neighbor you don’t like? Borrow the hood off his truck/car and lay it across some cinder blocks, spread out the oysters, cover and wet them down. Light the fire and sit back for a little bit.
