Had a nice gash right on my knuckle last Saturday when picking oysters. It stayed swollen, but hurts worse today.
I gotta wait till Monday so I can use the cheap 1-800 doc. Found some old antibiotics I had from a shrimp wound this morning so taking those in the meantime.
When I gather oysters I usually keep a soda bottle full of a 50/50 mix of bleach water and pour it over any cut. I use rubber gloves under welding gloves and have still had them sliced through. The other thing I’ve learned on gathering oysters over time is getting to the bed a hour before slack low and not being in a rush to put em in the basket.
Personally I think the quicker a wound is cleaned the less chance of infection. When I get home I then use some hibiclens before and after a shower. That stuff is like magic on cleaning a cut. Don’t think you are suppose to use it on a real deep one though. ?
I’ve had countless fishing related incidents and never got a infection. My go to is let it bleed out and rinse it. I had a deep down fish fin form a callus. The only thing I’ve went to the hospital or was a sting ray sting. I googled it, big mistake it made me think I was having an allergic reaction. Just put hot water on it, that worked better then morphine.
This was after I pushed it through… Should have took a video of that…
That made me queasy… Can’t tell from the pic, but is that a circle hook? If so, I’m surprised as they are supposed to get you in the corner of the mouth.
