oysters by kayak

Does anyone do any oystering on a kayak? I thought it would be cool to fill just like a 5 gallon bucket.

yep. Here’s an article I wrote for Coastal Angler Magazine, then copied to my blog when CAM took it down at the end of the month.

Never been oystering so I won’t rule that out just yet. I’ll have to let my son look at the maps. Being red/green color blind I can’t make out all the state and recreational areas.

how long can i keep oyster in the refrigerator or on ice in a cooler before eating them??? i would of course eat them within 2 days …just want to be safe

The seafood shops have them in a refrigerator room for a couple weeks, sitting on ice they’ll be fine just as long.

Thank yall…i love oysters…i have many times thought about grabbing some while out fishing and bring them home but decided against cause i was unsure how long they would keep

I kayak oyster at the grounds on Folly every few weeks. Easy 100 yard paddle and tons of good oysters.

Kayak, SCUBA, or both.

did you ever get any oysters?

There is no greater fan of fly fishing than the mud minnow.

I dont use a Kayak but I get oysters here:

on a regular basis for my oysters. I’ve already gone 4 times this year. They are big and salty!

A few weeks ago my son and I were down and couldn’t catch a cold. We had oyster maps of the area so we wouldn’t go home empty-handed got a couple of 5 gal. buckets full. My wife was happy since she loves anything that comes from the sea. I have not harvested any by yak as where I have been fishing it would be quite a paddle to oyster grounds. Great idea though.

got two five gallon buckets in the yak yesterday actually. maybe 200 yards from the folly ramp. good sized too.

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
