Oyter harvesting

Does anyone know of a place around Charleston where I can get access to few oyters by walking in? Coming to Charleston for a couple of days.

Not sure of any locations exactly… maybe someone will chime in or here or shoot you a pm… otherwise, check this location map from scdnr and select where you will be visiting, it will show you where you can harvest amd whereyou cant… with water temps still in the mid and upper 60s, I wouldnt try em myself yet. Good luck just the same

Thank you, I never thought about the warm water.

I don’t know about quality of picking because it has gotten pretty popular, but you can access some open grounds by parking at the folly beach boat landing (there are specific car spots at the ends of each row or you might end up with a ticket for parking in a trailer spot), and go under the bridge to the east/north side after checking on that map that Stump linked

I also wait till around 65 degrees water temp, but season is open and the commercial folks are picking… and it hasn’t rained a drop in what feels like months, so watch out if we get a good dump… DHEC tests for contaminants and will close areas if they need to. check here first if in doubt: 1-800-285-1618 or Information for Shellfish Harvesters | South Carolina Department of Environmental Services
