I recently got a ocean kayak xt scrambler and I am interested in upgrading my paddle and getting a seat with some lower back support. I will primarily be using this kayak to yak baits out about 500yds off the beach. First question is there any paddles that are beast for short explosive paddles like this in the surf that are decent priced or good places to look for a used one? The second question is what kind of seat options would you suggest is there a place I could try or test local to charleston? I am about 6ft and 230lb and my yak is 12 ft and about 28 to 30 inches wide the paddle is top priority because I want to be able to pull a lot more force for things like heavy current pulling a lot of tension on the line.
Check out www.mohawkpaddles.com They are not the lightest on the market but for your distance you probably don’t need it. I’ve had one for several years and it works well. I was able to get a longer length and wider blade to push more water. Plus they are very affordable.
Sorry, can’t help on the seat, maybe wear a back brace?
