Despite the forecast for 3 to 6 foot seas, non-commital crew members, and rain, I was able to wrangle up a crew to fish this afternoon.
We left MI at noonish, riding out at 45 mph, 3 to 4 on the way out, raining lightly.
We hit our numbers just north of the hole with lines in at 2pm, and it was ON!
The seas were FLAT, the sun was shining when we got there, and the reels were screaming.
I had fluorocarbon rigs from the leftover bluefin tuna fishing we never got to this winter, and the fish were biting through them all. Four rods went off at a time. We fought the last two for quite some time, and then they were gone. ZERO for eight! Boy were we rusty. We never got any close enough to the boat to blame it on the gaff!
We then changed to wire leaders, and it was the game changer. We landed the first of three wahoo. The next few hits were either short strikes or broken plugs. Then we had a double header to end the day.
Action was nonstop!
Ride home was 55 mph. We left warm sunshine and ended in cold, overcast MI. The forecast claimed 3 to 6. I dont think we had anything larger than 4 the entire time we were trolling.
Nice haul! Gonna give it a go myself this weekend if the weather holds out.

The water temps were hovering around 72. We fished 140 ft to 200 ft. Blue and white and pink and white were hit. Nothing on the islanders. Remember to use WIRE…
Negative on the mahi or tuna…Capt Dallas boated two mahi (see his report), and I had a report of more hoos and tuna caught today!
