Another great half day gulf stream trip.
We left the dock close to 1pm, ran hard to the GT hole, and had lines in just before 2.30pm. The seas were much kinder to us than on Sunday…
As we started letting out our lines, we had our first reel smoker in less than two minutes! After a long fight, the very large HOO was in the box! Biggest one for us this season. Pink and blue on MONO!
Slow trolling, then the way back goes off. My turn at the rod. Another long fight, and the BIGGEST black fin for the season is in the box!
The bait starting boiling in basketball court sized areas, and we troll through it. Rod goes off, SAILFISH erupts out of the water. After a few dances, it spit the hook a few minutes later! Exciting!
We see a few more bait balls, and troll without success. Reeling in our baits, we realized they were all short strikes.
The next HOO hits the on the surface, MONO again, and is nicely brought in.
Setting out our lines again, the naked on the bird gets hit as it is let out. The fish didnt stay on the bait - no teeth marks when we brought it back in - ?Sailfish?
Another HOO strikes three of the baits before getting hooked - fought bravely for what seemed liked an eternity, and finally makes it to the boat. While jockeying in for the gaff, he zigs, zags and spits the hook! The huge one that got away!
A few more strikes we were unable to hook, one on the down deep, and then it was time to head to the hill. Back to the dock by 8.00pm. I cant wait to get a WHOLE day of fishing!
A great day, even though we missed more than we should have.
Tight lines,
Jason
