We left the dock at 11am - i got out a little early today. The ride out was slow, three to five every 5 seconds. We saw life about 15 miles short of the GT Hole - birds, weeds, and then fish. Schools of peanuts - not interested in what we were pitching to them and no apparent size to them, so off we went.
Lines in around 1:30 - and it was on FIRE! Dolphin hits my new cedar plug in no time - somehow spit the hook.
As soon as lines were back in, a black fin almost spools us. He ends up in the box.
Then mahi, mahi, tuna, tuna, mahi, non stop! The mahi were partial to Lady Gaga, and the Tuna seemed to like Kayne West and Jay Z.
We had a fish take the county line and charge the boat. Ended up losing him in the props - and had a cluster. As Jay was in his drawers clearing the line out of the props, I tried to jig for the Grouper with the butterfly jig. It didnt attract a grouper this time - an 8 foot tiger shark followed it up. Jay immediately got his hands and all other body parts out of the water (and some of you free dive out here?).
The daymaker hit about 4 pm - WAHOO! Completed our meat fish slam. This was our largest Hoo of the season/ever - weighing in at the dock on my wifes bathroom scale at 72lbs.
We had a fast ride home, and ended up cleaning 8 black fin (largest 30 lbs on the above scale), 5 mahi, and the GIANT (for us) HOO!
I cant image what a WHOLE day is like out there…some day…
