Tuesday Afternoon fishing on the PainKiller - guest fishermen Matt Touche Conrad, Jimmy K, Dr Q and Son, and Capt Jay Sconyers.
The day started a bit later than usual, we got to the Scarp around 2:30. Much better ride than Sunday, no lightening, smoother/faster ride.
We saw a well formed weed line in 60 feet - cast to it and four flying fish dispersed with the first cast. We stayed for a few more casts, then pushed off. It was coffee colored on the shallow side, and blue on the deep side. Thinking we were too shallow for big bulls/wahoo/tuna, we continued on to the break.
Lines in - quick short strike, then the mahi hit. Dr Q made quick work of it. Slow trolling, few strikes and far between. His son finished his conversation with Ralph, and landed the DAYMAKER mahi.
We bottom fished as the trolling wasnt producing fast enough. The father and son duo had the hot hands, as the rest of us seemingly forgot how to set the hooks? We landed a bunch of vermillion snapper, trigger fish, white grunts and silver snapper.
Not to be left out, Jimmy landed a 100 lb tiger shark (released boat side to swim another day).
We lost one mahi at the dock with slippery fingers.
More pics to follow in the am.
Where did the dolphin go? Maybe we should have tried the shallower water color change and weed line?
Tight lines,
Jason
