PainKiller Sat 7/27/13 Late Report

Took off Saturday on the Dottie R out of georgetown - friend has a big sportfish that was needing to get bloodied. With the lack of stellar reports from the stream, the Capt decided we would bottom fish for the day.

We left the dock at 0530 and headed to the Jurasic Park - the boat was full of fishermen and one fisherwoman. My father and my son (three generations), Jimmy, his friend from back home and his teenage son, Matt of Touche fame and his (girl) friend, Boston Neil and his brother, the Captain, and the Accountant - Way more than the PainKiller can hold -

Air conditioning, beds to sleep in, bagels and lox, waffles and fruit salad, giant muffins (I was in charge of breakfast) - definitely NOT the PainKiller fare! Just about three hours to our spot, lines went to the bottom. We went hard for several hours. Fish galore! Everyone caught on just about every drop. Lots of the usual bottom dwellers. Highlights included double trigger fish hook ups, strawberry grouper, scamps big and small, and tons of b-liners and BSB. The accountant slept the day away due to the patch and dramamine - he woke up in time to catch a few fish before lines up.

Seas were flat, the sky was blue, the air conditioning was cold, and I was able to fish with my dad and my son and my friends. A great time was had by all.

For the three hour ride home, I slept in one of the staterooms. Wow - luxury fishing at its finest!

The final tally was 80 fish in the box. I shared the filleting with Matt as the rest of the crew cleaned the boat. We all finished just before the sun went down.

A much different experience than the PainKiller - more room for friends and family, more refined, with a much bigger time commitment as the trade off (and the fuel bill).

Interestingly, when I called my dad and asked if he wanted to fish, he first declined. When I told him it would be on the Dottie R and not my Contender, he changed his mind!

Tight lines,
Jason

Nice catch. I bet that your ride out was much smoother than mine.

Good report–boats like that will spoil you quick. I have to ask though, what the hell is lox?

Pat, you are missing out. Run down to the Co-Op or Cafe Medley on Sullivans and order yourself a lox bagel. Smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, red onion…

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.

Easy now…

Do not tell fish stories where the people know you; but particularly, don’t tell them where they know the fish.
