PainKiller Wed Afternoon 5/10/17

Left the dock at 11am with the usual cast of characters, plus a friend in from CA. With great expectations the beginning of the week, only to be let down the night before with a windy and big sea forecast, we lowered our hopes of limiting out on Mahi-Mahi and headed for the parking lot.

Slow and steady, bumping and slamming along the way, we finally made it to the far edge of the fishing grounds. Bottom was alive and well - interestingly more B-liners than black sea bass. We limited out on the B-liners, threw back four genuines and one 19.5 inch scamp, and headed to shallower water to start working on our limit of BSB.

On the way in, we found a weed line with birds, trash, man-o-wars and occasional fish breaking water. We decided to troll - ya never know. It was unproductive. I didn’t have a water temp as our unit was acting up.

We continued on to our spots in search of the knot-head BSB. This was much tougher, as the tax men were lurking below the surface. We fought them off until we were tuckered out. Just about the time to pack it in, the seas flattened out. If only we had more time, we would have run out to the scarp - but alas it was too late.

Fast ride home with a box full of B-liners, some sea bass, trigger fish, white grunts, silver snapper, and a strawberry grouper. Two brown sharks were released boat side, as well as too many to count atlantic sharp nose sharks.

Our limit of Mahi-Mahi will just have to wait.

A good time was had by all,

Tight lines,
Jason
