Leaving the dock at noon, the weather wasn’t as cooperative this Wednesday, so we decided on to look and see if the mercury missiles arrived.
Live bait was found off the beach.
Just beyond the Belky Bear, we were letting out the first line, it was GAME ON! We had a hard time getting our four lines out as they were getting hit. We took a two man limit in just under an hour! KINGS ARE HERE! Water temp was between 68 and 70. Found a few flying fish as well. Rounding out the catch was the obligatory shark and a little tuny.
Just about time to head back in (having family plans for the evening), would you believe a COBIA takes the bait! 21 lbs, 37 inches and now on the Marlin Quay leader board!

Tight Lines,
Jason
Back to the Wednesday schedule…
Always crank in the last line slowly - the straggler sometimes makes the day. In your case it sure was!
Great pics, thankx.
If you don’t mind me asking , what is the belky bear??
17’ Mako
The Belky Bear is an amazing location for King Mackerel about 13 miles out from the Murrells Inlet Jetties. The area has a live bottom that attracts the Mercury Missiles. I haven’t had any luck bottom fishing there, but did manage to catch an occasional Mahi and once a sailfish a few miles past it years back. It is well charted - if not, PM me for coordinates.
Tight lines,
Jason
