Flat seas and shining sun! We left the dock at noon, made 50 mph on flat seas to the GT Hole. I was reading John Grishams Sycamore Row on the ride out - thats how FLAT the ocean was - best all season!
Schoolies with birds diving about 6 miles short of the hole - cast to them, they swam to the boat, small with a remora swimming with them. Fun, but not the target species. So our journey continued.
Capt Jay, Lance, and a friend Brian (his first offshore adventure) rounded out the crew.
Lines in, trolling began. A few short strikes, then Brian fought his first fish. Nice 30 lb class HOO! It was GAME ON!
Another HOO - deeper water, 300 feet, on the way back. Smoked the reel, almost spooled. Fast throttles and great teamwork, and a 50 lb HOO came over the rail!
Skipjack was next - purple lines and all.
A few times the planer rod was hit, but not hooked.
Third HOO was the largest - we all took turns reeling him in - hot and tired.
And a final black fin to round out the box.
Fast run home, 50+ mph, and made it back just after sunset.
Great half day gulf stream trip.
All fish were caught in deeper waters - pink and blue, all on the surface.
September fishing at its finest!
Tight lines,
Jason
