PainKiller Wednesday Afternoon 9/3/14

With a limited time to fish today, we left the dock at noon in search of King Mackerel at the Belky Bear. Jimmy, Drew, Capt Jay made the trip with me.

Schools of bait galore along the beach. Fast run to the Belky Bear. We were interrupted by schools of Spanish every mile or so. We had to stop and pick off a few on our way to the bear. After catching enough for a small supper, our journey continued.

At the bear, we had no action. Nothing.

Pushed out a bit further, and a teen sized king hit the spread close to the boat. Fun fight, boated in no time. We were using my ‘all purpose’ inshore and nearshore rods - from flounder to kings - 4500 penn spinfisher v on an ugly stick.

Put the spread back out and WHAM - Tailwalking Sailfish! Almost spooled me a few times. Amazing half hour fight on the flounder rod! Leadered twice and released unharmed to swim another day!

Home by 4pm and off to a meeting!

What an afternoon!

What kind of bait did the sail hit?

Cool pic! Nice job with the fish!

Thanks for the kind words.

Slow trolled live bait on king rings.

A great day indeed.
