Painting a cowling....

Can anyone recommend a shop for painting the upper cap portion of a Yamaha? I dont want to do the spray can type of job for I dont think it would end up looking good or lasting too long. Thanks.

With the composites on modern cars, a body shop should be able to get the job done. Just a thought.

I asked the same question recently. I have a 1996 Johnson 112VR. The paint on the cowling is faded and I would like to have it repainted. I think the only way to do it right is to have a body shop re-paint it then re-apply aftermarket or factory decals. I haven’t been able to find decals for my motor, so I will probably take my cowling to a sign shop and have them replicate the decals.

If anyone has ever had a cowling re-painted, I would like to know what it costs.

If I make any headway on this project, I will post.

Good luck.

Ok. Beaufort would probably be quite a ride to paint a cowling.

He took it to a body shop here in town and they were able to do it. Motor was a Mercury 250xs. Looks good. I dont know if that helps any. If youd be willing to drive to Beaufort I can get the name and number of the shop for you but I would imagine any body shop could do it.

For about 100 dollars you can get the whole yamaha kit including primer to do it yourself and it is very easy.

From reds to marlin you got it.
