Pamplona Bull Run

Headed there this weekend for the run early next week. It’s a bachelor’s party of sorts, the bachelor lives in Germany and is marrying a German girl, so we’re headed his way. Unfortunately, he’s a puss and won’t meet us at his own bachelor’s party. We’re pretty firm that it is the party and we won’t have another when we get to his town.

Anyway, if you’ve been, give me some tips… and not the kind with a bull attached to it. I’ve read and read, watched 1000 youtube vids, ran a lot lately in preparation, still too fat, but am committed.

You don’t really need your spleen anyway.

If you can use a small child as a shield against the point of the horn, your chances of personal injury go down quite a bit.

small, fat child helps even more…

To be honest, whenever I have a travel query, I just post it on the Tripadvisor forums. They’ve been extremely useful and cater to all sorts of folks and activities.

You’d think the money-havin’ adventurous folks on this site would have been passed the ledge a few times.

Who’s who?

Get one of the local kids. They already know how to cuss in spanish.

Brush up on your Cheap Red Wine drinking! Went there once during that week! Hope you have reservations to stay somewhere. We were just driving around Spain that week and happened upon it. We couldn’t find a place to stay within 100Km. Everyone running has consumed a gallon of Red Courage before hand. I guess that’s what it takes! If they were wearing a red bandanna they were drunk. Don’t know if they have Cheap Red Wine in boxes over there! That was an inside joke:wink:

We’ve got a place to stay. It was about $400/night Holiday Inn Express, but we’re only staying one night and have several guys. We land in Madrid, stay the night there. Then drive over to Pamplona, walk the course, get to know the situation (drink some red wine/coke that is mixed called kalimotxo) but we intend to get a nights rest after that trying to account for jet-lag/excitement/etc. The run begins at 2am EST, so we have 2 days to adjust/try to be physically and mentally ready. Since the bachelor isn’t actually going to be there and we are mid-30’s, we don’t intend to be drunk and tired.

We (hopefully) leave later that day to drive to San Sebastian beach in the north before flying to Germany a couple of days later to where the wedding actually will be held. It’s kind of a whirlwind trip with about 18 bulls chasing us for a bit as we trek across Europe.

Good idea. It’ll help to ease the pain…

Remember that you don’t have to be the fastest guy out there but you don’t want to be the slowest. Just faster than the fat guy behind you.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Wait… I am the fat guy?

Here’s my latest plan:

I’ve been able to get a map of all of the trash cans from the route, I’m ready to shoot from can to can until the stadium.

Dang, I only thought I was crazy. That’s nuts [:0] Good luck with that, hope you make the wedding.

Great food in San Sebastian! Eat where the locals eat, cheap and so good. If you order Iced Tea, you’ll get a strange look. Then they bring you a cup of hot Tea and a glass of ice Make sure you get an order of Chipperones, if they are on the menue! you will love them!

You gotta watch out for Easy. I have a feeling “chipperones” are similar to “lamb fries”…[:0]

That’s finally some usable info right there! Thanks Easy!

You are not going to roll very far with the wheels pointed up like that.

I would also suspect that empty trash cans will be in high demand. Might want to bring your own

I believe I’d find a balcony and just watch the show. What are you going to do if one decides to hit the open end of the trash can? They won’t have a hard time cleaning up the mess then!!
