I really can’t say enough about the folks @ Panama Sportfishing Lodge. All the employees and contacts were extremely professional and polite. I had a nice ride out to the lodge with Mel, a college educated historian who was full of knowledge and kept the 4 1/2 hour ride interesting(I was supposed to fly the last leg but was driven in a new Suburban. We drove over the canal, pretty impressive ditch they dug there:
The scenery is impressive and the weather was great, pineapple fields, green cow pastures and the Sierra Madre stayed shrouded in clouds.
As I said we got a few sails on the first day and tested some new tackle, My patented"hammered nun-chucks" got to the bottom quick in 600’ and the snowies couldn’t resist
The bottom there is out of control, volcanic ledges and outcroppings dominated the landscape above and below the water
Mel told there is no place that “so few have so much, and so many have so little”. This is an above average house in the area of Boca Chica. They are squatters and build on public right of ways, usually between the road and the adjoining property line.
After the first day we seemed to fish where the fish weren’t. The second day we live baited most of the day and stopped to drop in 600’ again and were rewarded with snowies on every drop. We opted to

Would love to go, with my son preferably, but he doesn’t get out of college until 1 June. Sounds like you’re heading back before then. Do you have a website? If not I’ll google it.

Even though they are North of the equator, they call this time of year Summer. It is there dry season now through April/May. The fishing is good all year but April/May is at the top of the list. The fish don’t mind the rain though as they are already wet. PSFL does have a website and I checked prices against other similar lodges and they were very competitive price wise, better than most, and you won’t find better captains anywhere down there. They will fish however and wherever you want, considering fuel is $2.50 a gallon there, just like here, they will go where the fish are regardless of the run. I don’t think you can go wrong there regardless of when you go.
Courtland, Do you test the tackle as a job? The reason why I am asking I always wanted to do that, thats the main reason why I am going to school for marine science emphasing in fisheries.

Thanks for posting the pics, sure is some beautiful country. I have two out of the house with one finishing up college. After our last baby makes it through college, maybe we will still be able to travel abroad. Future plans are in the works. Do you bring home any fish or just pics and a great memory?

They are not set up for shipping fish home. My group was in charge of bringing fish home for the other guests of the lodge. We could have buried the boat in grouper but from 600’ there is no releasing. We would stop and get them on the way in, as I said it was every drop, fish on. Not everyone is into hand cranking from those depths.
I would imagine they will be adding a fish shipping service in the near future. That country would be a great place for investing if it weren’t so corrupt. The growth with the canal is impressive. Look at all the construction in Panama City.
Wow… just look at that hwy and sky line… I believe America has gotten to the point that we don’t like to show just how good other countries are doing. Way back we had some awesome interstates, I believe we are starting to get left behind. Just look at I26 & I95 why oh why haven’t we went triple lane?
ranting again.

Panama has 25% of the world’s large cranes in service there. You can see atleast four of them in that one skyline picture. I would say their atleast 20 skyscrapers under construction in Panama City. One on the coast in that photo is a Trump Tower.
