Panama Sportsfishing Lodge

Has anyone fished out of this place? Any pros or cons?

Send Courtland or Poledancer a PM / email.

They’ve put up reports from there before.

Place looks out of control, and they always have a big time.

PM sent.

Thanks Courtland! I don’t know if I could stand to be pampered like that. I just might stay on shore and say I went fishing.

Flat Bottom, my last name is not Gates!

I think for that price you get free beer on the boat… that could ofset some of the cost…

Did you see that you are expected to tip $150.00 per person for 10 People plus the Chef! For that kind of money I would expect lots a beer and happy endings.

tropic star lodge is very nice, i can say its worth the money and its top of the line as far as lodges go. for the money the service is top notch, but there are other options and a charleston boat that takes charters to the bank also.

If anyone sets up a trip to Panama and needs an extra person or two to make the package cheaper send me a PM. I have tons of FF miles and can jump a one stop flight through Atlanta to get to Panama city. I have been wanting to go but don’t know that I can scrounge enough people up to make it worthwhile.

L M Viper, I’ll keep you in mind! I’m looking at different places down there for a 3 day package. I really like Panama Sportsfishing Lodge. The only problem I see is getting your catch home. This could be a bit**. Thats a lot of money for fishing pictures.

Do you think you could fly fish back into the country?

I don’t know! It would probably have to be inspected by Customs and USDA or someone like that. I think it would be more problem, than it would be worth. I sure would be pissed, if my fish was confiscated after I put in the effort, to get it back to the US! I can just see some government jerk, sitting down at the dinner table, eating my fish.

I have always brought fish back from Costa Rica! Soft sided cooler carry on. Also from Tabago! Cant see why you couldnt from Panama!
Have flowen thru Mami and Huston. Have had more trouble carring rods and reels

Thanks Boatpoor! When was the last time you did that? I guess calling TSA or Customs would be worth a shot.

You can pack it. Typically in a styrofoam cooler, sealed and inspected at the airport. Fish double bagged for leakage. The problem you have is time. Fishing and flights to Central America usually mean a day lost on both sides of a trip. If you want to fill the freezers go to Oregon Inlet, then to Panama and have fun.

Courtland! I really like the idea of Panama and the price. The PSL has everything I think I would like. Plus, Grouper Fingers for breakfast. Now that, is living, Hi On The Hog! My first choice was Venice, LA. but then I found PSL. With your recomendation, it made me look at it hard. I saw a post on CFC sometime ago about Venice and the guys took a chest type freezer with them to get their fish home. With a power inverter pluged into your cigarette lighter you would be good to go. I’ve fished halibut in Alaska and they had fish processing at the dock in Seward. You told them when you wanted Fedex to deliver your fish and it was over-nighted to your door. All in all, I guess it will wind up being Venice.

I have been considering Venice too for the last few months. If I can drive 24 hrs ( with dogs) to SD every year the drive to LA isn’t that bad with just a truck full of coolers

Viper, you might want to consider a chest freezer and a power inverter. put it in the truck and keep your fish frozen and you have it for use at home until the next trip. Thoes freezers are cheap at Lowes or HD. That way you don’t have to mess with ice.

We need a big SC crowd to do a Venice trip. Couple of boats. Could be a blast! I have some contacts down there. We could get on them strong!

Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
