I borrowed a map from a friend on Saturday and walked down into the Panthertown Wilderness area off of Cold Mountain Road. Easy walk in!!!
First stop was Schoolhouse Falls. Terry was right, the pool was simply beautiful! The only problem was a small group of kids happily throwing rocks into the pool.
I walked back up to the trailhead that leads down Greenland Creek. Went up over the ridge, past the powerline and back down to below a waterfall (don’t remember the name). Lovely pool, lots of small specs. I worked upstream to just above Warden’s falls and then made a circuitous route back to the trailhead leading back to the truck.
The climb out was a bit more than I am used to. Sunday and Monday were advil mornings!
All in all, about 20 fish. One was 9 inches…the majority were around six inches. All released to fight another day. I fished several flies…Tenessee Wulf, Royal Humpy and EHC. The fish seemed to prefer the Wulf but the hackle began to unravel after # 4. I fished all flies with a #24 dropper (copper wire and flourescent chartrusse thread) about 24 inches back. Several of the larger fish took the dropper.
On the way out I diverted over to the junction of Panthertown Creek and Greenland (I think) so that I could say that I had been to the actual headwaters of the Tuck.
