Paradise Island Landing

I decided to launch at Paradise Island Landing on Monday. I haven’t been there for a few years. The water color was extremely red/rust. Anybody knows what causes this?

The water up there is usually that color this time of the year. It gets darker as you run up the river. I would assume the amount of run off would have be a factor. I have heard that the redfish are a magnificent color when you catch them up that way…

Tannins from leaves that fall in the water up river would be my guess. The creek looked like chocolate milk after that big storm yesterday.

Tannin from all the runoff from the forest

Interesting, thank you. Wasn’t catching any fish up that way, and I was concerned about the water color. Glad to hear its normal.

I’ve caught some gorgeous golden reds up that way…

That area and the Francis Marion forest east of 17 there has been pounded with rain lately. Even when it did not rain Saturday at Tractor Supply it poured over the Wando headwaters there. Been raining all week too. Lots of fresh water with tannins. A little darker this year than normal for almost July.

I did notice that the spray wasn’t salty at all. I got pounded by the rain Monday.
