finally got out on the yak today with some mud minnows under a popping cork. fished the incoming tide at a creek mouth and hooked up with 5 reds landing 4 biggest red going at about 29-30" all in all a good day. saw lots of mullet and some pods of menhaden may have to bring the cast net next time. catch um up…Mike
Dang nice! Do you catch your Mud Minnows or do you buy them?
got them from the outpost. I tried catching them in a minnow trap with no luck…what am I doing wrong? caught plenty of menhaden in the cast net though. caught one undersized red on it today. Catch um up…Mike
Mike, I personally like to use anything smoked in my minnow trap haven’t laid ne yet this spring/summer … but plan on laying one on Sunday morning and seeing how it fairs, I like to using smoked herring especially, its only worth the price though if you catch more than a dozen but if they are there you will. Also where is paradise landing ??

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>Be on the fresh water side of a saltwater feed (ditch). If it takes you more than 45 minutes to catch a couple dozen mud minnows with a slice of white bread, then you are just in the WRONG place.
Thanks for the tips. Hurricane Paradise is off of Hwy 17 about a mile past copahee sound on the left. when you see the sign for pepper plantation make the left go all the way down to the ramp. catch um up…Mike
Is this landing suitable for a 17’ CC? Always looking for alternate sites to launch from. I have never fished that far up the Wando so it would be an adventure. Looks great for yaks. As soon as we get another one, my son and I will have to check it out.
no! and there are no fish up there anyway.
you’ll be fine @ mid tide or higher. low tide, your trailer will drop off the ramp. really. believe that last sentence.
Yeah low tide is a good way to lose an axle on your trailer. Also there is no dock, pretty primitive launch basically. A bunch of oyster beds around the launch too so watch out.
Oh peapod, you say that to everyone. Trust me, there is never any danger of me catching a lot of fish. Mainly looking for a place to put in kayaks but figured I ask about boats.
you can launch your boat there except for dead low tide. At High tide I’ve seen 25’ launch. great place to take the kayaks. lots of skinny water. maybe I’ll see you out there. catch um up…Mike
I’ve been out in my kayak or the little yella boat everyday this week and have been fishing off the same bucket of mud minnows the whole time. I like to set my trap in an area with little current, muddy water, and just deep enought to cover the trap. In the past week I’ve been trying different baits and have caught miunnows with sausage, peanut butter crackers, crushed blue crab, old oily swiss and cheddar cheese, old turkey and roast beed, bread, cut up mullet, muffin, packets of mayonaise, and a reese cup. They’ll eat pretty much anything that’s oily. If you can find a creek that’s got a bar at the mouth and holds a pool of water at low tide, it’ll be loaded with minnows. I usually check the trap three times, waiting 30 minutes between checking it and weeding out the little guys. In the mean time I’ll just fish spots close by until it’s time to check again.
Good going on them big spottail. I fished the outgoing tide and caught a dozen spottail and two flounder in the kayak the other day but couldn’t catch a fish over the slot limit
