Parks near Clemson,SC

Not looking for anything great, just want to do some hiking and throw the fly some when I travel to the upstate. Are there any state parks in that area that have some small streams that hold a few trout.

I think there is some water north of Lake Jocasee. It may stretch into NC. You should be able to do a search and find the creeks that fee Jocasee.

oconee is not too far

Table Rock is right down the road from Oconee. Both have some good ponds on the park and streams nearby. Get a Delorme Gazetteer if you do not have one and enjoy.

If you check out the post that I just put out there that says "Hatch Pattern Walhalla…) that shows a loop trail that’s not too far from Clemson where the trail follows the river. Plenty of parking and you can take the “short loop”… so you don’t have to hike so far.

Thanks BigDaddy, you can fish river with SC license right? I know that it borders Georgia and wasnt sure of the rules.

It will show you plenty of streams in the upstate. I would personally hit the Chattooga River above Burrels Ford.

We did some primitive camping at Burell’s Ford and cabins at Oconee when I was a kid.

I recommend Burell’s Ford for camping.
Plus the Chattooga River Trail runs right through it.
There is great fishing close by.

The rivers that flow into Lake Jocassee are the Whitewater, Toxaway, Horsepasture, and Thompson rivers. The Foothills trail goes right around some of these rivers.

Those cabins are still there and haven’t changed a bit, very rustic. And so is the stocked trout lake they surround. I usually stay up there at least once a year. They are pretty cheap to rent in the off months. I wish they would have a state residents reservation period for the nice places like Devils Fork, and Hunting Is. I hate to see state parks overran with people from out of state, that don’t pay state taxes. I guess that is a totally different issue.
