But we must have forgotten to invite the fish.
Had the pleasure of fishing yesterday with Sellsfish and Black Angus on haz-r-dous1’s boat. We met at Remleys a little beofre 6:30 and headed out to the ledge. Got out there to find cold surface temps and a motley looking crew on a 23Sailfish.
They arrived at the deep about 10 miinutes ahead of us and began bailing endangered* red porgies and B-liners. We pulled up alongside in the monstrous* less than a foot swells to dip a few of each as well.
After a few minutes of pinkies and b liners we moved off a short distance hoping to put some triggers in the box or find the grouper. It just wasn’t meant to be on the triggers and grouper. We dropped cut bait, cigar minoows, sardines, live bait, jigs, you name it -we tried it with no takers.
Sells did have a nice hard hookup on the jig that came unbuttoned after about 20 seconds of good pullage. Black Angus set the hook on one and got rocked up tight… had to break the line on that one.
Talked with 23Sailfish. His crew was doing a little better with a trig and a broomtail in the box, but not much different than us.
After that we got into a swarm of sharpnose. One shark had 4 out of 6 lines in the water tangled up in about 30 seconds. Geez what a mess. Had to cut our way out of that tangle
Our day consisted of endangered* - caught a 3 man limit in no time and tossed back AT LEAST another 3 man limit. Caught some nice jolts and knobs
Moved in to the Garden where Mike.O and crew were bailing some of the prettiest BSB’s I’ve seen. We set up 3 boats drifting over structure and everyone - except me - pulled a few nice BSB. I caught shorts, trash , and bait… something wrong here somewhere. I’m sure Sells will post my catch of the day.
We kept checking different structure in the area and Sells pulled up a nice reef donkey on the jigging rod. That was fun to watch. Sells would jig it and get a short strike, jig short strike, jig short strike, Sells started CRANKING on the b
