Got the invite and so I packed up and left the house downtown at 3:45am Saturday. I brought my normal gear and thought it wasn’t going to be crazy cold yet but I didn’t expect the wind in the stand I was in. It was like being on the front of a center console in the harbor going 45 in January. Layers didn’t help hah!
As far as hunting goes, there were about a dozen shots that I heard near by at first light and a few after but then nothing when the wind started, except for the club running dogs. At 8:00am, a nice doe and two smaller ones ran at full sprint across the field and right under my stand. I happened to be relieving myself into a bottle at the time and they couldn’t hear my grunt over the wind so they kept on trucking. I could have jumped on their backs. Pretty cool to see. Sat until about 10am but it was slow and I didn’t hear anything other than shots from the dog clubs.
Fun time in the woods and I will layer better next time.
