Paw paw turning 96 Who taught you?

So I grew up in New Orleans and can’t remember a time that I wasn’t fishing. I remember catching minnows in a net when I was 3 years old at a pond near the house. Very vivid. Its always been a thing for me and if you ask my wife, there’s really only one time Im truly really happy and thats when Im fishing. But it was the trips I made with my grandfather that made me who I am am.
My grandfather was a dentist and he took off at least one day a week to go fishing. He often would take me on his days off and this was a time when the school would allow for “educational leave” days and didn’t care if I was skipping to go fishing.
We would head out on the stamas and cross lake born to hit the sweet spots… alligator point, cross bayou, shell point and Roberts spot(thats me). We would use his crack reels, bamboo rods, only mono and catch fish like you would only dream of. At least 3, 4 or 5. Thats boxes of trout, reds, flounder and drum.
I was taught to clean fish as my grandfather would clean the boat when we got back. I learned how to service engines, how to operate the boat, how to prepare breakfast out on the water, how to run lines at the dock and how to properly prep the boat for a trip.
Thanks Paw paw! 96 and still going strong.

When you see “Old Glory” waving in the breeze, know that it is the dying breaths of our fallen hero’s that makes it wave.

Grandpa was a farmer with no interest in fishing but he had the best night crawler beds behind the chicken coops.

It’s strange the things that come to mind. It’s not always the most obvious memories you hold closest.
