Hey, been lookin on a map for a nice place to surf fish this weekend. The south end of Pawleys Island looked nice. Looks like there is a parking lot there but not sure how long ago that was. Are there any public fishing spots on PI or is it all private property?
Also I hear people are still catching sharks. Where exactly can you fish for them. I went to MB and they told me it was illegal to catch there.
Finally when surf fishing, what kinda weights do you use. Went down to MB about two weeks ago, cast my 7ft rod out with a 6oz pyramid weight and the waves just carried it down the surf. Thanks for the help
I am sure someone will come along and help you more than I can, but just to get this going:
Shark fishing is illegal in Horry County, it’s allowed in Georgetown County.
I don’t know what they’re called but I Googled surf fishing sinkers and saw images of sinkers that I have seen in bait and tackle shops. You probably need those
The beach itself is public. There are access paths, and places that are legal for anyone to park in. Including that parking lot you mentioned. Hopefully a Pawleys local will see this and be more specific.
Wow, must have been rough for six ounces to be washed down the shore. I never waste my time if I need more than 4 oz. As for Pawleys. Yes there is access on the south end and plenty of room to fish. The north end is a bit trickier, but a solid place to fish. If you are fishing the north end watch how you park. Park in areas where you are not in someones yard and make sure you have all four tires completely off the road, if not they will definitely write you a ticket.
Back in the day I had many a great day fishing down there. Living in Columbia now and don’t get down there nearly often enough.
