PAWLEY'S ISLAND MAHI FISHING

I’m from Charleston and got a beach house in Pawley’s Island starting Saturday 6/23 - 6/30. How far offshore do we need to go to hit the 100’ foot mark to drop the lines for Mahi trolling? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your best bet would be to find some good live bottom or a wreck in 80-90ft of water and bottom fish. If the dolphin are around they will eventually move in to check the boat and fish out. Have your pitch baits ready.

Where are you planning on putting in at?

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Im not too familiar with the area. we are using a Google map to help us plan the trip. Looks like Midway Inlet is where we will exit into the ocean, assuming there are jetties there and we arent going against waves.

The only jetties you are going to find are in MI or Winyah Bay. I would suggest making the 15 minute trip north to the public landing in MI. The channel is marked and deep all the way out to the ocean.

If you try to go out of Midway, then you’re not going to be getting very far out to fish and there’ll be a whole lotta people camped on the end of the beach laughing at you.

Head to MI for a quick run to the ocean but go early it get crowded up there. Ball park in Gtown is a bit of a run to open water but not as congested. Carol Campbell is over the Sampit in Georgetown and has 3 lanes and lots of parking.

Leave outa South Island Ferry. 45 miles to the dolphin. Fish the Horseshoe. They are always in there this time of year.
