Coming down this weekend but I am not going to be able to bring the boat. Was wanting to try out the south inlet at PI but have nver been on that end before. Seems to be nice spot from google maps, I can fish the inlet or surf while the kid plays & wife lays in the sun (public parking & porta jons looks like).
The water looks real shallow in the inet part at the public parking end so I was wondering if it is too shallow to fish the inlet on that end?
Any other advice on that end would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Work the incoming tides and you may snatch a flattie or two. Only problem is, it gets crowded down there. I have had better luck at the north end. You have to walk a way but beach is fine and less people. Tides are the most important factor.

Pawleys Island
I paddled around the north end of Pawleys Friday night with giggin lights, saw a good many flounder between 10-12inches, Only saw two that were legal.
“Oh, de flounder he looks so fine, hanging onto my little thin line…”
Thanks guys. I have fished the jetties on the north end from the bank in the past & had good luck. I haven’t fished the north in a while because there is really no parking & I am always worried about being towed. Once they built that board walk on the north end I just gave up on it. I have fished the main channel on the noth end from my boat but had no luck so far. I wanted to try the south end since it actaully has parking. I think I will try it Sunday so maybe that day will not be too crowded. Even if the inlet does not produce maybe at least the surf will, I hope…
You can catch Whiting, Pomano and Flounder from the beach at the South End right now. I’ve done best right after high tide.
pawayne,
So you are catching them out of the surf & not from the inlet part?
I have never fished for Pompano, did you catch them with sand fleas?

Catching them on the ocean side. I use small hooks with a piece of fresh shrimp. Sand Fleas would be killer if you could find any. I’m tempted to try Gulps Sand Fleas. I was going to look for them next time I’m in a store that sells Gulp. “Pro” tip , don’t cast past the fish, they’re in close.
Looks like you just cast in or on the back side of teh surf break from what I googled.
Did you also catcht the flounder in the surf?
I know they are out there but I have only caught flounder in teh inlets.
Yes, I caught the Flounder in the surf. It was a bonus fish, not one that I was expecting. I was using a pre-made rig that had little rubber shrimp on the hooks, and then I added a small piece of shrimp to each hook. The Flounder hit the one with a pink shrimp on it.
Sounds great, I appreciate all the help guys. I need all the help I can get. Been fishing the salt for a while but when you only get to do it 3 to 5 times a year it’s hard to really pick it up & be productive.
