Just wondering if any body had some info about fishing around Pawleys Island in a kayak.
I am currently looking in to getting a yak and I will be fishing around the island when I get it.
Far better it is to dare mighty things to win glorious triumphs even though checkered with failure, than to take ranks with those poor spirits who never enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the grey twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.
Check wiht pawlys island on here… Ol hutch fishes this area…

Troll /drift creeks with grubs and or mud minnows for flounder occasional red and trout
I occasionally kayak fish the creeks behind PI but prefer to fish out of Oyster Landing in Murrells Inlet. At Pawleys, I’ve usually done better on the north end, putting in at Shell Road landing (northern-most landing) and fishing up into Midway Inlet and the creeks in that area. I’ve had most luck with finger mullet or cut mullet, and also Gulp shrimp.
If you fish or kayak out of Pawleys, be careful where you park. Tickets are expensive and freely handed out.
I know the oyster recycling place you’re talking about, how do you do back there? I go back there to catch pinfish sometimes, but I haven’t had a chance to launch down there.
Do you head out towards the jetties or just stay in the creeks?
Sorry, haven’t been in here in awhile. Good days/bad days, like most places. Oyster Landing feeds out to Oaks Creek, which is one of the main creeks in Murrells Inlet. I usually stay in the creeks; the jetties get a little too crazy in the summer for me. Oaks gets busy in the summer, but on a good high tide, a kayak will get you into some decent water that’s not fished very often. Haven’t done squat on trout this year, some decent reds earlier in the year. Surgery has kept me off the water for the past month, but I understand water temps are very high in the back of the creek right now. A few years ago, I would never see another kayak fisherman back there, but there are several who hit it pretty regularly now.
Check with Stump (aka Kevin Grant) at Pawleys Island Outdoors - he will set you up on where to catch fish on your yak. Stop in and see him on Hwy 17 in between the North and South Causeway - you won’t regret it.
Sounds good, I’ll have to explore more next time when I am there. Should be in September. I’ll also stop at that bait shop.
The one I have gone to in the past btw ocean lakes and huntington sate park is run by a guy who just moved down from up north a few years ago. Very nice guy, but still learning the area when we talked to him.
