So the big CaptFritz - Fred67 dustup got me thinking - what does peapod really add of value to this site.
Yes, I know: rugged good looks, a 140 IQ, the body of Atlas. but can I do more?
so I decided to recap my August of inshore fishing. I hadn’t fished much since winter because
-
my trailer was broke
-
macdaddy bullied me so badly on End Times Thread 1, 2 and 3 that I wasn’t sure I could go on.
I’ve fished 4 x this month, all at sunup, finished mid to late morning.
Your results may vary.
Trout - scattered for me. I’ve targeted them at sunup with a spook, a trout trick, and a minnowz on 1/4 oz jighead. I got 5 yesterday, that was the lowest number this month. the bigger fish went up to 20", most were 14"and under. Long grass points, high tide, main creeks has been best for me. there have not been any concentrations of fish in a single spot. but there will be in 6 weeks or so when we all become expert trout fishermen. watch the blowups close, you will learn things.
when the trout swings and misses, speed up the cadence for 3 ft - like the bait’s trying to run away, then go back to normal. he’ll hit it again to finish the job. if he doesn’t hit it a 2nd time, drop a trout trick on him. he’ll often eat that.
bass - have been easy pickings, sunup, low light, mid tide or lower. top pup. vary cadence. they will tell you what they want. many of them have hit it while stopped. when you see em, or know where they are - stay off of them, make a long cast. I’ve been amazed how long they will stay still and happy if I respect them and dont bust in on em. i got three off one tiny little ditch before they finally got wise.
when the bass swings and misses, walk it 6"-1ft then stop and let it sit to 5. he’ll often hit it again and get it done this time.
oh, and you will lose plugs.
