I am preparing a Lowcountry Boil for some friends on Saturday. Has anyone ever peeled and deveined prior to cooking. I know the shell hold in the shrimp’s moisture but it also hold in the shrimp’s poop shoot.
Thoughts?

Leave the heads on as well. Lots of flavor in the heads.
Don’t use peeled shrimp. They will have no flavor.
If you really, really have to, just take a tooth pick and between one of the segments, gently poke a small hole/slit and pull as much vein as you can. You won’t get it all. Don’t even try to get all of it.

If you really love the crowd your fixing it for! I have done this, after every thing else is done still on a low boil throw them in for 2min and cut off the heat. Mine had plenty of flavor.
The shell can get real slimy from over cooking your potatoes, if already shelled just pop them in your mouth.
On the traditional side I enjoy sitting peeling and eating the shrimps.
If boiling shrimp for just the Wife and my daughter I peel every time. Half beer/water, old bay and a capfull of lemon juice. Bring to a boil 2 min. take off heat and let set for a few minutes.
