Baby pelican landed on our boat 4 times today. Cute as it could be. Looking for food I assume. Thank goodness it didn’t go number two! First time in eight years in the lowcountry creeks. It was eyeballing us two days ago in same spot.
Normal, rare? Tks
Btw - the big reds were hungry. Landed 2, 28 & 30 inches. Lost two, lord only knows how big. MM under corks in 1 ft of water on secret flat
Normal. They routinely follow crabbers around and if you’re in a spot that the crabbers frequent, they’ll follow you around too looking for an easy meal.
those things are worse than vultures this time of the year… talk to most any crabber or anyone on the water regularly they are fearless and are about as graceful as a drunk freshman… we had 7-15 proably follow run into land on grab at us on friday pulling pots… they want free food… and those hooked beaks are can do some damage… one grabbed the hook pole left a nice dent lol…
i will be honest i find to be absolutely great mostly hilarious but god are they aggressive… crab boat has a 6 post t-top(home made) had 2 fly into it under way trying to beat us to the next crab pot… they land on the motor all the time even had a few land on the bow and stick around…
check them out while in flight… thy are like fighter jets they tuck that long neck in feet about dissapear… and with those mohawks thy just crack me up… especially the ones with the yellow head/hair on head…
odd to note… u never see all white pelicans withthe grey ones.
Ok thanks. That’s what I thought. This one looked like a baby. Funny as all get out but determined. Little SOB parked himself right where we were casting.
Pelicans seem to land near my old boat a lot. They seemed to like it for some reason. One day I was out just cruising by myself. I turned around to go get a beer out of the cooler and saw this guy standing there. Freaked me out at first!!!
Word of advice when mr pelican fly overhead…do. Ot look up!!! :). They will white wash you like a fence…take it from someone who knows! Hahaha crabbing with daddy they like to follow us and beg-… And steal. Yep…they will steal the bait…even the lunch. One day daddy was shaking out a pot and one grabbed the glove right off of his hand and flew off with two other Pelicans and daddy in pursuit :). It quickly realized the Orange fish in its mouth wasn’t very tasty and dropped It. Next time look closely at its beak. The very end looks just like a attached fingernail…and a ugly one…one that should be on a trolls hand…a picky picky fingernail.
