I found a great deal form Dolphin D down at Time out but a buddy told me about a rig at Sports Authority, it’s a pelican 116 ( 11 ft) with seat and paddle for $469… Is pelican a good brand and is it a good yak? I am still waiting until I can sell a couple of cameras before I can get my yak but I am doing my research and shopping now… So if you know someone looking for Film SLR’s, Nikon I can also go with a lens and flash kit… I gotta sell stuff… I am jonesin for a yak Any input is as always greatly appreciated! Thanks guys! Tight lines!
had that rig as my first rig slow very slow does not handle well in the wind not well built screws rust quickly. buy a quality yak.

A standard yak, even a sit on top is a little too unstable for me to be comfortable fishing in. I like the looks of Native Watercraft’s Ultimate 12 Kayak. The fact that one can staand up in it is a big plus for me.
It has been my experience that whenever I settled for something less than what I wanted, it took me that much longer to save for what I want and the thing I purchased was a reminder of my wastefulness in settling for less than I wanted in the first place.
My plan is to rent or borrow until I can get what I want.
Another option is to look for a used yak in the meantime, but it seems that most people want a lot more for their used yaks than I am willing to pay.
I saw this on Craig’s list

No interest and nothing in it for me.

My wife has a Pelican sit-in that she plays with up here on Greenwood, but I’ve been looking at the square back yaks similar to the one on craigslist. Anyone have one and how do they like it? Can it be used easily in rivers also? Thanks

I bought he castaway 116 and so far I like it. I took it out and paddles around and at first it was a litle squirrley but after I practiced a bit and it straightened out… I am going to trya nd get it into busy park today and monkey around a bit and see hwo it handles there. It is by no means the Tarpon 120 or 140 that I will some day own, oh yes one day, but for my “Fisher Price beginner yak” I am happy so far. I was able to pick one up for less than $300 and that is THE main reason I got it. Like I said it may not be the best but for now its good for me.
I don’t lie about the fish I catch… I just remember them bigger…
Less than $300!?! Great buy. I would love a deal like that to hold me over. The Pelican I was looking at is $350 + tax + accessories = about $500. I was out at Time Out this afternoon looking at the Native and Wilderness lines. I think I may just rent until I am able to make up my mind. Dolphin D, at Time Out, will take the rental price off the purchase price. I didn’t ask him how many though.
Do you think he would let me rent 20 times and take the $780 off of the purchase price?

I wish! If he did I don’t thin Dolphin D would be in business much longer I was saving up for the Tarpon 120 and was about half way there when I found this castaway and couldn’t pass it up. Took it out last night at bushy park and had a blast. Got a little wet but it was still fun. Forgot the bug spray so I was eaten alive… surprisingly not on the water but when I was tying my yak down on the jeep…
going to try and hit BP again this Friday.

That would be nice!!! Seriously though, we will refund one day’s rental price toward the purchase price of each boat.
