I fished out an old Penn 210 a few weeks ago and was looking to go surf fishing with it. Turns out I need lots of practice as I got a pretty big Birds nest first cast, then put it away and used a different rod.
Anyways, I decided to practice my casting today, but I think something is wrong or needs to be tweaked. I have four ounces on the the line and the line will not be released. I flipped the clutch and the line just sits there, it will come out if I pull on it but from what I understand it should come down on its own.
is the cast control (small round tension control knob
) too tight?
I’d rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave.

Sorry I am relatively new to fishing, but from my research cast control is normally adjusted with a knob, yet there is none on mine. I know it is normally near the star drag, but again no knob just bolts.
There realy is no “cast control” on the 210. You can tighten the spool bearing nut to help with run on, but the spool end WILL wear out. It sounds like it is already a little tight now. I’m pretty sure the 210’s were ment more for trolling not long casting. And with 4oz it will be a little unruly. If you ever yak your bait out, it would be great.
