PENN 309 Reels ?

Is this a good reel for the money (~$80)?
I’ll be using it for catfish (Big Blues and Flatheads) and big fish around the jetties.

Or would you recommend another brand in the same price range?

That’s what I use for my sharkin reels. I’ve been very happy with them. Mine are hand me downs.

Not a bad reel, but very old school. It is also a levelwind with I personally do not like on a conventional reel (b/c they break when a big fish is stripping drag). The Penn 500L Jigmaster is a good all around conventional reel for about $60-70. One of my favorites is the Penn 535GS or 545GS. Smooth drag, casts very well, and fast retrieve. They will run about $120-140.
