Penn 5500SS parts

I have one of these that is about 15 years old. It has been heavily used, but is in excellent working condition. A part of the rotor that holds on the the springs and levers that flips the bale back over after casting broke off. I took it to Haddrells to get a part and have it repaired. They said that the part is no longer available. I checked online and couldn’t find any there either. It’s not that big of a deal, but I hate to just toss this reel into the parts bin. I keep all of my gear in excellent working condition and the reel does not look it’s age. If anyone has one of these models laying around that you aren’t using, I’d be glad to buy it from you to get the part I need.
I can afford to replace it easily, but just hate to toss a quality American made product away that has served me and my daughters so well for so long.
Thanks,

Check ebay. I’ve seen Penn reel parts for sale there.

If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.

Pennparts.com has a schematic and parts list for the 5500SS. You may be able to find what you need. It probably wouldn’t hurt to give them a call. Those old Penn’s last forever. I have some from the 60’s that are better than most of the new stuff.

You might want to check out this crowd. http://store.scottsbt.com/Penn-Parts-Home-Page-W7C1.aspx I’ve bought parts for my 4400’s and 4300’s from them.

The first myth of management is that it exists.

Let me check with the guys in the parts department in the morning.

The guy at Haddrell’s will make it brand new.

I have several 5500SS reels but I use and service all of them. Most were bought used and some show some wear but still function well. I have noticed that Penn changed some parts and mechanisms over the years so you may be able to update the reel with newer parts. I have also seen some SS series reels on ebay that were worn or broken being sold for parts. You may be able to buy a good used 5500 on ebay for less than it will cost to repair yours. At least then you would have a parts reel with a spare spool, frame, handle, bearings, etc.

I’d rather fish than eat.

In God We Trust

Thanks to everyone that responded with information. I have bid on a couple reels on ebay. When I retire from my current sales postion, I’m going to ask Penn for a Rep. job. I figure they owe me one for all of the reels I’ve bought and the free word of mouth advertising.
Thanks again !
